This company was formed in 1968 to manufacture specialty blood processing solutions for the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Cytosol Laboratories launched the first generic balanced salt solution in the Fall of 1983. In 1985 Cytosol Balanced Salt was found to have the lowest particulate content of several commercially available ophthalmic irrigants.

In 1996 Cytosol Laboratories received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market Rejuvesol. Rejuvesol is capable of restoring function to Red Blood Cells which have been stored up to 42 days outside the body. This revolutionary product should virtually eliminate the destruction of outdated red cells, thus saving the cost of disposal and replacement.

The overall mission of Cytosol Ophthalmics over the past two years has been to heighten brand awareness of Cytosol products in the ophthalmic arena and increase sales to insure a self financed future. With both elements of this mission now satisfied, Cytosol has recently turned to a global focus and joined with some of the best known ophthalmic corporations to form distribution agreements which cover the globe. At the same time we have begun a research and development program to expand our product base to take further advantage of these newly developed global partnerships.
